This is a photograph of my grandmother, Beulah Maybelle Boaz, when she was a little girl growing up on a dusty farm in eastern Kansas. She was born May 30, 1902, the 7th child of 9 born to Henry Clay and Viola May (Champion) BOAZ. She had 6 sisters: Gladys, Rena, Nellie, Dixie, Ruth & Frances; and 2 brothers: Albert (Bud) & Harold (Jack).In 1922, when Beulah was 20 years old, she married my grandfather, Warren Martin Sessler. Beulah and Warren loved to dance in their youth and people were known to say that they made a strikingly handsome couple. Together they raised a family of 4 sons: Harry, Bobby, Mike & David; and 2 daughters: Marjorie & Betty.
My grandmother Sessler was a petite little lady who was soft spoken, gentle and kind. She dressed in her finest clothes whenever she went out and enjoyed wearing lace gloves. My mother, JoAnn (Forward) Sessler said that Grandmother Sessler "had the manners of a fine, genteel lady." She was always kind and loving to me and I never heard her raise her voice or speak a harsh word to anyone.
In her later years, Grandmother Sessler lived in Phoenix Arizona with her son, David and family, where she formed a special bond with her grandchildren, Debbie, Susie, David, Christopher and especially little Matthew who was only 4 years old when Grandmother passed away on November 13, 1980.
I loved my sweet, Grandmother Sessler and I miss her.
